For the first phase before casting, we couldn't use the animated character artwork, so I illustrated a new Shrek, holding a rough wooden sign (handily obscuring his face!). Created in Illustrator and Photoshop, with composited grass & sky.
I then composited a cast version of the artwork, picturing the characters on a huge stage showing the scale and excitement of the production.
